Click BACK button to return to previous page About UsWho Are We? Clifton Bible Church is a non-denominational assembly that has as its main purpose: to teach clearly and succinctly the Word of God. We have an extensive doctrinal statement that can be read by clicking here. We believe that believers in Christ grow spiritually by the work of the Holy Spirit within, as He illumines the Scriptures. Clifton Bible Church is in the tradition of the great independent Evangelical movement, in line with great schools such as Moody Bible Institute (founded by D. L. Moody), and Philadelphia Bible College (founded by C. I. Scofield). We understand that the Word of God is to be studied and interpreted basically in a very literal and normal interpretation. The Bible is laid out dispensationally with an unfolding plan being revealed from Genesis to Revelation. The Scriptures make it clear that the Church, those who have trusted Christ as Savior, will be taken out of the earth just before the terrible world-wide tribulation takes place. The tribulation will last seven years, and then Christ returns to reign on earth, in the Holy Land, for 1,000 years! What Clifton Bible Church Teaches – Inspiration of the Bible The Word of God, from Genesis to Revelation, is an inspired Book. It is the only true and reliable revelation of the will of God, the plan of salvation, and it is the only text that gives hope for heaven. Today, many attempt to deny its inspiration and the fact that, as the books of the Bible were recorded, the human authors were superintended and guided by the Holy Spirit, as to their message and the truthfulness of their message. Hundreds of verses support the fact of the Bible’s veracity and inspiration. In fact on an average of four times per page, the Scriptures claim to be the Word of God! Every word recorded comes from the Lord (Jer. 26:1-10). For example, the words of Jeremiah the prophet are the very words of God (25:13). God in Scripture has spoken and given us just the message He wants us to have. Paul writes, “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work” (2 Tim. 3:16-17). And Peter writes, “for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God” (2 Pet. 1:21). Clifton Bible Church stands on these great truths of Scripture. What Clifton Bible Church Teaches – The Interpretation of Scripture Clifton Bible Church takes the Word of God at face value, i.e., in its normal, literal, and clear interpretive sense. Many look at certain passages of Scripture and “freeze” and do not know how to understand what is said—especially in the area of biblical prophecy. While it is clear that often illustrations, types, metaphors, are all used in prophetic predictions, these literary devices point to a literal and actual historic event that will come upon the world. To not take the Bible at fact value, is to create confusion and doubt about its clear message. When the Bereans heard about the resurrection of Christ, “they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily, to see whether these things were so” (Acts 17:11). In other words, they took the resurrection as a literal fact and then did biblical research to see if it was prophesied in the Old Testament to be an actual, literal happening. The resurrection as predicted, took place with all the literalness given to it in the older testament! The Bereans did not allegorize or “spiritualize” away the doctrine of the resurrection of Israel’s Messiah! |
